Documents and Articles:

Bacha , Jeff. "Writing the Basic Business Letter." Purdue Online Writing Lab 1-2. Web.25 May 2010. <http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/653/01/>.

I will be using this document to guide the way in which I present my letters to Henrietta Lacks (as if she were still alive), Rebecca Skloot, the Lacks Family, and Johns Hopkins hospital. I think that this format would be nice to follow and can definitely help me include what is necessary while writing these letters

"Five Reasons Henrietta Lacks is the Most Important Woman in Medical History." 2010: 1-2. Web. 25 May 2010. <http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2010-01/five-reasons-henrietta-lacks-most-important-woman-medical-history>.

This document will help me conjure up ideas to write in the letters pertaining to Henrietta Lacks and to her family. With these five important ideas about why she is indeed so important, I can create a basis of argument against Johns Hopkins hospital as well as explaining to the family what she has done for our medical research, improvements, and cures all over the world.

Flynn, Richard. "Formal Letter Writing." Using English 1-3. Web. 25 May 2010. <http://www.usingenglish.com/resources/letter-writing.html>.

This article will allow me to learn the basics on how to write my letters to each person, from beginning to end. It allows me to recognize the layout of how a proper letter should be written and shows outlines for what should be included in a formal letter.

"Racism and Health: Henrietta Lacks Revisited." Racism Review 15 February 2010: 1-2. Web. 25 May 2010. <http://www.racismreview.com/blog/2010/02/05/racism-and-health-henrietta-lacks-revisited/>.

This article and blog gives me the perspective from a racial point of view on Henrietta’s life allowing me to look at the bioethical and social aspects of her sitation. This can be useful when writing letters to Johns Hopkins as an understand of why they went with through with the decisions that they had, and with the family and Henrietta as evidence for why they were the treated the way they were as well.

Rohnemus, Alison. "Deborah Lacks' Immortal Mother." News and Tips for Women in Science: Under the Microscope (2010): n. pag. Web. 25 May 2010. <http://www.underthemicroscope.com/blog/deborah-lacks-immortal-mother>.

I think that this article is very interesting because it is written to show the perspective of Deborah Lacks, taking attention away from her mother for a short while. I think that this will be useful when I put myself into the mindset of theLacks family in order to write them a meaningful and personal letter. The more information that I can research and read about each member of the family, the better I think that I can portray how they really felt and how they were affected by their mother’s death.

Rubenstein, Ben. "How to Write a Persuasive Letter Using Pros and Cons Charts." wikiHow (2010): 1-2. Web. 25 May 2010. <http://www.

wikihow.com/Write-a-Persuasive-Letter-Using-Pros-and-Cons-Charts>.

Using the information from this article will definitely be very helpful in writing the letter to Johns Hopkins’ hospital. What I am trying to do is convince them that they were wrong in what they had done to Henrietta and her family, and that they should acknowledge them even today. This article shows me how to do this persuasively to achieve that goal.

Skloot, Rebecca. "Cells That Save Lives Are a Mother's Legacy." New York Times (2001): n. pag. Web. 25 May 2010. <http://www.

nytimes.com/2001/11/17/arts/cells-that-save-lives-are-a-mother-s-legacy.html?pagewanted=all>.

This article gives me specific incite into the life of Deborah Lacks as well as information on HeLa cells far past the death of Henrietta Lacks. This article will also add to the information that will be helpful in writing my letters to Henrietta and her family.

Skloot, Rebecca. "Henrietta's Dance." Johns Hopkins Magazine: Pioneers of Discovery (2000): n. pag. Web. 25 May 2010. <http://www.jhu.

edu/%7ejhumag/0400web/01.html>.

This article I found very interesting because it offered something new on Henrietta Lacks that I had not seen before. Not only did it mention her love for dance, but I found it interesting that this article was written by Rebecca Skloot, and published in the Johns Hopkins Magazine in the year 2000.

Skloot, Rebecca. "Librarians: The Secret to Narrative History." Library Journal (2009): n. pag. Web. 25 May 2010. <http://www.library

journal.com/article/CA6710997.html?q=rebecca+skloot>.

This blog caught my attention and I think it would be very useful for my letter to Rebecca Skloot. It helped me better understand her viewpoint, all of the research she had to do onthe subject, and her connection with the Lacks family, which is very strong.

Skloot, Rebecca. "Selected Press Coverage of The Immortal Life." (2010): n. pag. Web. 25 May 2010. <http://rebeccaskloot.com/press/>.

This website is from Rebecca Skloot’s own website, showing all of her press releases, interviews, and articles about her and about the ones that she has written. This is useful to understand the author better and also to learn more about Henrietta Lacks. Sloot’s press releases are all attached as links organized under different categories.

Skloot, Rebecca. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. New York, NY: Crown Publishers, 2010. 1-358. Print.

I will be using the actual novel The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks throughout my entire final project. I will use it as a resource for information on the author, Henrietta, her family, and the Johns Hopkins hospital. Also, I took a number of quotes from the book to include in my collage drawing to add an informational aspect to my artistic representation.

Wilson, Nicole. "How to Make a Collage." (2010): 1-3. Web. 25 May 2010. <http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Collage>.

This website has helped me put together my ideas for my collage into a central theme that will incorporate and combine them to create a final product. This website shows how to create a collage and what is necessary to complete a collage. I plan to make it as informative as possible, including quotations and scenes from the novel and each family member’s lives.

These images below are my inspiration for my collage and my guidance to what I would like to include. As I work more on my design, I will draw and add more pictures to it to enhance the meaning behind the collage.
